Visitors Talk: MRI coil development for 13C imaging at DTU by Vitaliy Zhurbenko

Vitaliy Zhurbenko is hosted by the CIBM MRI EPFL section with the support of the EUROTECH visiting researcher program. This program promotes cooperation between researchers at its partner universities, among which are École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne – EPFL and Technical University of Denmark (DTU).

CIBM MRI EPFL section is inviting you to attend his talk on MRI coil development for 13C imaging at DTU.

Abstract

The talk will be mainly dedicated to instrumentation for MRI of carbon 13 with focus on coil and associated high frequency electronics design.

The low natural abundance of the 13C isotope makes in vivo imaging extremely challenging. This limitation has been overcome with the development of the dynamic nuclear polarization technique. The technique, however, requires dedicated coil development for careful acquisition of the signal. In this talk, the highlights of 13 MRI coil development at DTU will be presented, including cryogenic receive coils, extremely low noise preamplifiers, transmit cols with a homogeneous B1 field and others.

About the speaker

Vitaliy Zhurbenko has received his PhD degree from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in 2008 where he is currently an Associate Professor and the Deputy head of Electromagnetic Systems Division. His current research and teaching interests include microwave and millimeter-wave sensing for biomedical and security applications; microwave and millimeter-wave components and integrated circuits for instrumentation applications; antennas and passive circuit design and characterization; magnetic resonance technology.
