Jean-Philippe Thiran was born in Namur, Belgium, in August 1970. He received the Electrical Engineering degree and the PhD degree from the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL), Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, in 1993 and 1997, respectively. Dr Thiran is currently an Associate Professor and Director of the Signal Processing Laboratory (LTS5) of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland. His research field is computational imaging, with applications in many domains including medical image analysis and computer vision. He also holds a part-time Associate Professor position with the Department of Radiology of the University Hospital Center (CHUV) and University of Lausanne (UNIL). From 2001 to 2005 he was Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Signal Processing international journal (published by Elsevier Science). He has been an associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Image Processing. Among many other duties, he has been the general chairman of the 2008 European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO 2008) and the Technical Co-chair of the 2015 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (IEEE ICIP 2015). He is a senior member of the IEEE.
