In harmony with CIBM traditions, on August 22-24, 2022, the International Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Workshop “MRS 2022: Overcoming the Barriers to Clinical Use took place at the CIBM premises located at the EPFL campus in Lausanne. In addition to the latest state-of-the-art results and advancements in the field of MRS and MRSI, the workshop covered the latest frontiers in clinical applications, encouraging in-depth discussions about the achievements of the MRS community over the last 10-15 years.

135 researchers from all over the world honoured the workshop with their presence on-site and 40 professionals joined online. The main aim of the workshop was to unite the international MRS community in an on-site event, educate young scientists and provide ample opportunities for students to meet and share their exciting work with the MRS experts in-person.

The workshop featured educational talks and oral scientific presentations on the latest state-of-the-art results and advancements in the field of MRS and MRSI over 3 full days. Its 9 scientific sessions covered invited topics from the basics of MRS to the recent advancements in the field and proffered oral presentations based on submitted abstracts by PhD students and senior scientists alike. In addition, poster sessions (42 on-site posters and 8 online posters), 2 panel discussions, coffee breaks, lunches, and a dinner at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne were organized to facilitate networking and knowledge transfer.

“I was honored by the presence of so many researchers, young scientists together with the internationally known experts in MRS and MRSI field. Huge amount of recent work was presented, the discussions were amazing and of high scientific quality. The “Meet the Experts” sessions were novel, had a huge success and I had so much pleasure participating and meeting the PhD students. Hope to see them in 2 years at the next MRS Workshop.  Thank you all for making the MRS Workshop 2022 and unforgettable experience, it was truly the largest, most diversified MRS gathering of MRS experts in the world. Special thanks to the CIBM local organizing committee.”  says Dr. Cristina Cudalbu, Research Staff Scientist, CIBM MRI EPFL Section.

Given the lack of in-person events over the last two years caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the event proved to be of high value and importance, especially for young researchers that just entered the field. Expert talks and presentations complemented by informal discussions with peers and more senior scientists allowed them to expand their network and deepen their knowledge of MRS/MRSI.

Presentations and recordings are now available on the official website of the workshop. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn more!

The Workshop was endorsed by ISMRM and CIBM offers its thanks and gratitude towards its supporters, helpers in organising the workshop as well as SNSF, EPFL, the sponsors and donors whose generous support enabled us to organise such an event.
