Dimitri Van De Ville
Dimitri Van De Ville received the M.S. degree in engineering computer sciences and the Ph.D. degree from Ghent University, Belgium, in 1998, and 2002, respectively. He was a post-doctoral fellow (2002-2005) at the lab of Prof. Michael Unser at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, before becoming group leader of the Signal Processing Unit at the University Hospital of Geneva, Switzerland, as part of the CIBM Center for Biomedical Imaging. In 2009, he received a Swiss National Science Foundation professorship. He subsequently became Associate Professor (2015) and Full Professor (2024) at EPFL, first with the Institute of Bioengineering, then the newly established Neuro-X Institute. He holds a joint affiliated with the Department of Radiology and Medical Informatics at the University of Geneva. He supervised more than 25 PhD students at EPFL and UNIGE. His interdisciplinary research interest lies in computational neuroimaging leveraging wavelets, sparsity, graph signal processing, MRI and M/EEG, and their applications to study the central nervous system in health and disorder. He was a recipient of the Pfizer Research Award 2012, the NARSAD Independent Investigator Award 2014, the Leenaards Foundation Award 2016, and the IEEE EMBS Technical Achievement Award 2024. He is a Fellow of the IEEE SPS (2020) and EURASIP (2023).
Dr. Van De Ville serves as a Senior Editor for the IEEE SIGNAL PROCESSING MAGAZINE, an Editor for the SIAM Journal on Imaging Science, and as a Founding Handling Editor for the new journal IMAGING NEUROSCIENCES. He served as a Senior Editor for the NEUROIMAGE:REPORTS from 2020 to 2023, the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON SIGNAL PROCESSING from 2019 to 2023, and as an Associate Editor for the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON IMAGE PROCESSING from 2006 to 2009, the IEEE SIGNAL PROCESSING LETTERS from 2004 to 2006. He was the Chair of the Bio Imaging and Signal Processing (BISP) TC of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (2012-2013) and the Founding Chair of the EURASIP Biomedical Image & Signal Analytics SAT (2016-2018). He acted as the President of the Swiss Society for Biomedical Engineering (SSBE) from 2020 to 2022. He also was Co-Chair of the biennial Wavelets & Sparsity series conferences, together with Y. Lu and M. Papadakis.
Since 2020, Dimitri Van De Ville is Head of the CIBM SP EPFL-UNIGE Network Analysis & Functional MR Imaging Section and ad-interim Head of the CIBM MRI EPFL Animal Imaging and Technology Section
