Program

09:30 – 10:30 Beyond Innovation: Design Research Methods for Adoption and Acceptance

10:30 – 11:00 CIBM news and networking

Abstract

Innovation alone does not ensure impact. Technologies must be adopted and accepted in real-world contexts. This talk explores how design research methods support adoption and acceptance, with a focus on AI.
Through two projects, the presentation illustrates how participatory and iterative approaches reveal key factors shaping trust, understanding, and engagement. The first examines AI integration in multiple sclerosis (MS), highlighting challenges around explainability, regulatory and clinical use. The second investigates strategies for designing a dedicated chatbot to foster healthier and more sustainable dietary behaviors.
Together, these cases demonstrate how methods such as co-design, prototyping, and qualitative analysis help move beyond innovation toward technologies that are meaningful, usable, and ultimately adopted.
