On Friday September 20th, 2024 a cross-group meeting took place between researchers from the University of Lausanne, Lausanne University Hospital, the University of Zürich, and University Children’s Hospital Zürich.

Dr. Meritxell Bach Cuadra, Head of the CIBM SP CHUV UNIL Computational Neuroanatomy & Fetal Imaging Section had the pleasure of welcoming Prof. Andras Jakab, Group Leader of  the University of Zurich Fetal and Infant Developmental Imaging team. During an intense morning, they exchanged with their interdisciplinary researchers on advanced imaging techniques, image analysis and machine learning to better understand the developing human brain.

They delivered short presentations and engaged in stimulating discussions related to brain structure and function before birth, and how these can be altered in common prenatal malformations. They  also presented their activities beyond fetal image analysis, focusing on trustworthiness and uncertainty quantification in MS and Eye MRI image analysis.

Concluding the scientific event (See Programme here), the group enjoyed a joint lunch before the Zurich-based guests continued exploring Lausanne with a treasure hunt.

Although the two groups have had a long standing collaboration since 2016, this informal setting allowed them to really appreciate each other’s group activities. Their latest joint paper, presenting the results of the MICCAI FeTA Challenge 2022 has just been accepted for publication in the  IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging.

The two groups look forward to strengthening their collaborative efforts, leading to more advances in Fetal Imaging.

Dr. Pina Marziliano, CIBM Executive Director, strongly encourages more of these exchanges, as they embody the  true spirit of CIBM and aligns perfectly with CIBM’s motto of Together Going Beyond.
