The BBL-CIBM-FCBG Research Day 2023 witnessed a heartfelt farewell ceremony dedicated to the esteemed Professor Francois Lazeyras.

The event, held at the University of Geneva’s Centre Médical Universitaire (CMU), served as a platform for both celebration and reflection on the outstanding contributions of the Head of the CIBM MRI HUG UNIGE Section.

Professor François Lazeyras, a pioneering figure in the field of MRI, has been an integral part of the CIBM MRI Research Day in Geneva since its inception in 2008. With a remarkable research legacy spanning decades, his leadership and expertise significantly impacted numerous studies, involving 83  published papers, 13309 citations, and numerous scanning hours. His expertise in functional neuroimaging has made significant advancements in the field, revolutionizing our understanding of brain function.

As part of the event, former colleagues paid tribute to Dr. Lazeyras through heartfelt speeches, acknowledging his invaluable contributions to the scientific community. Notably, Prof. Petra Huppi, herself a recipient of the 2023 ISMRM Gold Medal Award, shared inspiring anecdotes about their collaborative work and commended Prof. Lazeyras for his immense dedication and achievements, as did other colleagues.

The event concluded with closing remarks from CIBM Executive Director Pina Marziliano, who also extended a gift as a gesture of appreciation and gratitude to Prof. Lazeyras.
