The CIBM Data Science Module is pleased to announce the launch of the MiCo-BID project, supported by the Swiss Data Science Center.

The CIBM Data Science team officially kicked off the MiCo-BID project in collaboration with the Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC) on October 2, 2025. Proposed by scientists and IT leaders from all CIBM institutions as part of a 2024 SDSC call for projects, this initiative—titled the Multi-institution computable biomedical imaging data platform project (MiCo-BID)—aims to enhance the digital and academic competitiveness of HUG, UNIGE, CHUV, UNIL, and EPFL by optimizing biomedical imaging research pipelines.

The project focuses on targeted, high-impact interventions, such as developing validated de-identification profiles and improving pipelines for the controlled, project-based, and voluntary transfer of research data to a platform recognized by our institutions. This work will lay the foundation for numerous artificial intelligence (AI) projects centered on imaging data—because without data, there is no AI!

Over the next two years, CIBM and SDSC specialists will work closely with IT departments and data governance bodies across our institutions to develop and evaluate prototypes, establishing the groundwork for the long-term sustainability of these services. A key priority will be fostering clear governance that integrates data producers, consumers, and governing bodies to accelerate research, streamline data access, and encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration.
