Abstract
Advancing ultrahigh field (UHF) human neuroimaging requires targeted technical innovations to overcome fundamental challenges, including radiofrequency (RF) inhomogeneity, tissue power deposition (SAR), and motion. In this talk, I will first highlight our breakthroughs at 7 Tesla (7 T), demonstrating how intelligent parallel transmission (pTx) pulse design, novel denoising frameworks, and advanced image reconstruction have enhanced Human Connectome Project (HCP)-style diffusion and functional MRI. I will then discuss our ongoing research pushing the frontiers of UHF human neuroimaging on a custom 10.5 T system—equipped with 16-channel pTx and 128-channel receive capabilities—driving toward the BRAIN 2.0 resolution target of 0.01-µL voxel volume (e.g., ~0.22-mm isotropic resolution). Finally, I will summarize key takeaways and future technical directions for UHF human neuroimaging.

Xiaoping Wu, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radiology and the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR), with a graduate faculty appointment in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, USA. A University of Minnesota Ph.D. alumnus (2010), Dr. Wu brings more than two decades of expertise in ultrahigh-field MRI technology—specializing in parallel transmission, data acquisition, and image reconstruction. His current research aims to transform human neuroscience by pioneering cutting-edge neuroimaging innovations at ultrahigh magnetic fields.
