On the 25th of August 2023, the CIBM End-of-Summer Get-Together gathered 20 CIBM core members who visited the Bex Salt Mines.
The excursion began with a short walk up through the nature trail to the Bex Salt mines, the visit began with an overview video detailing the history of the salt mines. followed by a walk in the underground tunnels and a train ride into the heart of the salt mines, learning about the geological formations and its significance in the region’s history.
The team learned what is Halite-Rock salt, how it was formed, and how it reached the Swiss Alps, as well as the story of how this precious commodity was first discovered in the region. They had the chance to follow the steps of the salt miners and see all the steps of salt extraction and preparation of the final product.
