On 18 November 2025, CIBM welcomed a delegation from CERN to the MRI facilities at the Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève (HUG) for a dedicated visit organised in collaboration with the HUG External Affairs Directorate.

The visit brought together experts in workplace safety, physics, clinical imaging, and neuroimaging research, offering a multidisciplinary perspective on safety practices in high-risk environments.

The programme began with a demonstration at the HUG MRI7 of the new CIMA.X 3T MRI system led by the MRI safety TRM team, highlighting the stringent patient-safety protocols that apply to all clinical MRI examinations. This allowed the visiting group to gain a detailed understanding of safety management within a high-field medical imaging environment.

The delegation then explored the research dimension of neuroimaging at CIBM, including an overview of the diagnostic and scientific potential of ultra-high-field (7T) brain imaging, followed by a presentation of innovative machine-learning–based motion-correction techniques developed to improve image quality and data robustness.

This rich and productive exchange underscored the strong collaboration between CIBM, the MRI safety team, and HUG’s clinical services. It also provided a valuable platform for dialogue with CERN experts working in occupational health, safety, emergency response, and legal affairs, highlighting shared challenges and opportunities across scientific and medical high-risk environments.

CIBM extends its thanks to all participants for their engagement and interest, and looks forward to future collaborations that continue to bridge advanced imaging, safety innovation, and interdisciplinary expertise.
