Hamza Kebiri, Postdoctoral Researcher at the CIBM SP EPFL UNIGE Section, has been awarded an SNSF Postdoc Mobility fellowship to advance the robust, functionally informed characterisation of structural connectomes in early brain development starting January 2027. The project, titled Robust functionally informed characterisation of structural connectomes in early development, will be hosted at Imperial College London with Prof. Pedro Mediano and at Harvard Medical School with Profs. Davood Karimi and Ellen Grant, in collaboration with the Medical University of Vienna (Profs. Georg Langs and Gregor Kasprian).
During the fellowship, Hamza will focus on the robust estimation of functionally informed structural connectomes in fetal and neonatal brains, and on their characterisation using information-theoretic frameworks to reliably quantify how information processing evolves across development. This work builds on growing evidence that structural and functional connectomes co-develop in early life, with structural wiring providing a scaffold for emerging functional networks and information-processing capacities.
The SNSF Postdoc Mobility scheme supports Swiss-trained researchers in undertaking 12–24 months of research abroad, with an optional return phase to Switzerland. Hamza’s award underscores CIBM’s strength in trustworthy medical image analysis and connectomic imaging, and positions the center at the intersection of advanced neuroimaging, network neuroscience, and developmental brain mapping.
