On May 7th, 2025, the EEG community from CIBM’s founding institutions – Centre hospitalier universitaire vaudois (CHUV) , University of Lausanne (UNIL),  Swiss Federal Technology Institute of Lausanne (EPFL), University of Geneva (UNIGE), and Hôpitaux universitaires de Genève (HUG) – gathered at Geneva University Hospital’s Marcel Jenny Auditorium for the inaugural CIBM EEG Research Day. This event, initiated by Serge Vulliémoz Head CIBM EEG HUG-UNIGE Section and Marzia De Lucia Head CIBM EEG CHUV-UNIL Section, drew over 180 attendees.

The day featured 16 speakers and numerous poster presentations, showcasing the diverse landscape of EEG and intracranial EEG research across the Lemanic region. The program was structured around four key subareas of EEG research:

  • Morning sessions: Theoretical presentations with comprehensive, lecture-style insights into cutting-edge developments, led primarily by principal investigators and senior researchers presenting findings from years of dedicated research.
  • Afternoon sessions: Applied and translational focus, bridging laboratory research and clinical practice.
  • Poster session: A lively lunch-time poster session provided opportunities for in-depth discussions of recent advancements. PhD students and postdocs, the core of the scientific community, showcased their work and received constructive feedback through informal peer review.

Building community through science

Beyond formal presentations, the event fostered spontaneous interactions and community building. Researchers exchanged ideas, shared new findings, and established collaborations through interactive sessions and discussions over coffee and lunch.

The inaugural edition successfully created a platform for the EEG research community to connect, discuss, and refine their scientific thinking—recognizing that science progresses through conversation and critique rather than isolation.

We thank all attendees for their participation and a special thank you to all who contributed to the organization of this successful inaugural event, Cristina Colangelo, Axel Couturier, Sébastien Courvoisier, Oscar Dabrowski, Sandra de Best,  Marzia De Lucia, Marion Detraz, Frédéric Grouiller, Yingqi Huang, Giannina Iannotti, Sabrina Knecht,, Abele Michela, Tomas Ros, Laurent Spinelli, Serge Vulliémoz, and Martel Innovate team Miguel Alarcon and Valentin Popescu.

Building on the success of this event, the 2026 edition of the CIBM EEG Research Day is already in planning and will take place in Lausanne!
