Anh Tu Van

Research Staff Scientist

Dr. Anh Tu Van studied Electronics and Telecommunications at the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam. In 2010 she obtained her PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her doctoral research focused on developing novel non-cartesian diffusion imaging techniques for the human brain. From 2010 – 2013 she was a postdoctoral scholar at the Department of Radiology, Stanford University where she developed acquisition and image reconstruction methods for high resolution brain diffusion imaging and translating them in neuroradiological and neuroscience applications. She was the operational manager of a 3T MR research facility and a scientific researcher at the Munich Institute of Biomedical Engineering of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) from 2013 – 2017. Her research transitioned to developing methods for diffusion imaging of the heart and the musculoskeletal system. From 2019 – February 2025, she was a research scientist at the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, Klinikum rechts der Isar of TUM working on range of research MRI topics including body (abdominal and breast) diffusion imaging, quantitative susceptibility mapping, and ultra-short echo time Dixon imaging, supervising young MRI researchers and collaborating with radiologists.

She joined the CIBM MRI CHUV UNIL Translational MR Imaging section in March 2025 as a Research Scientist. Her present work focuses on translational abdominal MR imaging with emphasis on novel acquisition and image reconstruction and post processing techniques for motion-robustness and time efficiency.
